Apex Park and Recreation District welcomes three new facility sponsors. The Arvada Chamber, Children’s Hospital and Cold Stone Creamery have joined the Apex PRD in promoting community recreation.

The Apex Racquetball and Fitness Center offers classes Monday through Thursday mornings geared to those ages 50+. SilverSneakers® ROM and Yoga Stretch are offered Monday and Wednesday mornings, and a 4-week weight training class is available on Tuesday and Thursday, consisting of a variety of cardio exercises, balance, and strength training.

Get Active and Stay Active by volunteering at and Apex PRD event! Apex PRD offers a variety of events. Volunteer duties may include help with set up, break down, registration, handing out water/food, interacting with kids, adults, and much, much more!

CALL TO ORDER
President Jim Whitfield called the March 1, 2012 meeting of the Board of Directors of Apex Park and Recreation District to order at 6:32 p.m. at the Apex Center, 13150 W. 72nd Avenue, Arvada, Colorado. Apex board members in attendance were: Jim Whitfield, Lee Humrich, Jeff Glenn, and Ken Harrell. Bob Loveridge arrived at 6:37. Apex participating staff members were Mike Miles, Executive Director, and Luann Levine, Recording Secretary.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA AND ADDITION OF
Need a partner? Join the Racquetball Leagues at the Apex Racquetball and Fitness Center. Play different partners each week for 8 weeks. League players have free access to the weights, and exercise equipment each day during league play. For more information, call 303-431-9004. Register at the Racquetball and Fitness Center. Entries accepted first-come, first-served, until leagues are filled Registration begins Friday, March 9. Protective eyewear is now MANDATORY for all league players!

Staff and community volunteers gathered at the Apex Center on Friday, March 9, to assemble donated materials and create 564 Easter baskets for local children in need. Arvada resident and Apex PRD participant Chuck Bird leads this annual collection effort, and the baskets are donated to the Arvada Community Food Bank. For several years, Apex Park and Recreation District has supported the project by serving as a collection and assembly point for the Easter baskets.

Pinwheel Garden Fund-Raising Effort Benefits Ralston House Child Advocacy Center

Help plant hope! April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and in recognition and support, the Apex Center will host a satellite Pinwheel Garden for the Ralston House Child Advocacy Center. To sponsor a pinwheel for $5, stop by Guest Services. The goal is to raise $10,000 for Ralston House services and to raise awareness of child abuse in the community. Bright blue pinwheels are a symbol of child abuse prevention awareness across the nation.

The third annual ‘Round The Clock Racquet Rally is scheduled for August 24-25. This fun and festive event raises money for local families in need. 100% of the proceeds go to the Arvada Community Food Bank. Participants sign up as teams with the goal of playing tennis non-stop for 24 hours, beginning at 5 pm on Friday, August 24 and continuing until 5 pm on Saturday, August 25. The Arvada Tennis Center is a seasonal, lighted, 8-court facility that offers group instruction for youth and adults, as well as private and semi-private lessons.
