Work on skating, stick handling and shooting. This is not a drop-in hockey game! Developmental Hockey Guidelines: Full equipment required for ages 18 and under. Helmets mandatory for 19 and over. Full equipment recommended, skin must be covered. Coaching area is south of the southernmost blue line or may be determined by Apex staff. Coaches are required to wear helmets. Goalies pay the same fee as everyone else. Control your shots; you're responsible for pucks you shoot. Pucks are not supplied; bring your own. Respect and get along

It will be a happy Easter season at the Arvada Community Food Bank, thanks to the efforts of Arvada resident Chuck Bird and an energetic team of volunteers. Each year, Chuck gathers candy, toys and baskets to put together Easter baskets for children of Food Bank clients. The 60+ Spelling Bee, a popular and eagerly-anticipated showcase for accomplished spellers, drew a big crowd again this year. The event took place Thursday afternoon, March 13 at the Apex Community Recreation Center, 6842 Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada. The competition was fierce as always, and onlookers watched and listened intently as the group was whittled down to three. The first-place winner was Edward Geisler, the second-place winner was Mel Friedman and the third-place winner was Mary Welborn. The winning word was “acceleration.” Thanks

The third annual Apex PRD Foundation Sweetheart Silent Auction brought in nearly $10,000 to benefit quality, accessible and affordable community recreation, thanks to generous donors, auction participants and the efforts of the Apex PRD Foundation, a volunteer board of community leaders. The event took place on February 22 at Indian Tree Golf Course, featuring refreshments and a silent auction of hundreds of donated items. The first-ever Arvada TRYathlon was a huge success! Tennis players ages 16 and up, are encouraged to attend free drop-in tennis at the Arvada Tennis Center, 6430 Miller St., on Saturdays during the month of March, from 9-11 am (meet under the bleacher cover).
