On Friday, May 3, the Arvada Center was the site for this year’s Senior Prom, where the room was transformed into “An Evening In Paris.” Kicking off the evening (pun intended) were the Rockyettes, a dance troupe based at the Apex Community Recreation Center, who performed a rousing version of the can-can to put everyone in a Parisian state of mind. Make-A-Wish Foundation, NHL, Apex Center co-host “Logan’s Day with the Stanley Cup” On Wednesday, May 15, Logan Piz, an Arvada 13-year-old, a student at Lincoln Academy, and Arvada Hockey player #43, had what he described as “the best day of my life.” The Make-A-Wish Foundation teamed up with the National Hockey League to grant Logan’s wish… to spend the day with the Stanley Cup trophy and share the celebration with his teammates. Nearly a dozen of the Jeffco Aquatic Masters swimmers, whose home pool is Apex PRD’s George J. Meyers Pool, attended the recent Colorado Masters Swimming Association State Meet in April. They achieved some impressive results. The men’s overall team ranking was 13th, the women’s overall team ranking was 14th , and the combined team ranking was 14th. On Saturday, April 27, Secrest Youth and Teen Center, 6820 W. 66th Ave., was a festive, active and colorful place to be. Community members flocked to the annual free Bike Rodeo for a safe and solid start to the spring and summer cycling season, The event featured bike safety checks, safety skill-building activities, obstacle courses, free bike helmets, refreshments, bike decorating and more. Play Days are a way for players between the ages of 5-14, with previous lesson experience or currently involved with Arvada Tennis Center programs, to meet others of similar ability. Dynamic in nature, each play day begins with group activities to assess skill level. Players are then broken out into the group which best fits their needs, to participate in additional skill building or organized match play. Learn to play the fastest growing youth sport in the nation. This 9 week league includes 9 weeks of practices and 7 Saturday games. Players will receive a jersey. Player must provide helmet/goggles, mouth guard and a lacrosse stick. Pads are required for all boys.
