Staff and community volunteers gathered at the Apex Center on Friday, March 9, to assemble donated materials and create 564 Easter baskets for local children in need. Arvada resident and Apex PRD participant Chuck Bird leads this annual collection effort, and the baskets are donated to the Arvada Community Food Bank. For several years, Apex Park and Recreation District has supported the project by serving as a collection and assembly point for the Easter baskets.

In early October 2010, Apex Center staff flipped the “on” switch of an extensive solar thermal energy collection system atop the 168,500 square foot recreation center at 13150 W. 72nd Avenue in Arvada.
The project is unique for two reasons— its size and its innovative use of collaborating agencies and volunteers to save money.
