On Tuesday, August 22, more than 100 community members and friends attended a neighborhood event to commemorate the official groundbreaking of the new Secrest Recreation Center, 6820 W. 66th Ave., Arvada. This multi-purpose center, scheduled for completion in summer 2018, is the most substantial of a group of six bond projects approved by voters in May 2016.
“We are thrilled to mark this transition from a long-cherished community vision to the dynamic new reality of a neighborhood recreation center,” said Apex PRD Executive Director Lauri Dannemiller. “As with the other bond projects, Secrest Recreation Center is a unique and effective collaboration of resources, inspired and guided by the community it serves.”
The groundbreaking celebration featured a festive community picnic and fun games for families. Thanks to Apex PRD community partner Adolfson & Peterson, families, neighbors and friends shared a meal and chatted with staff about the exciting new center to come.
The new Secrest Recreation Center will be a 21,521+ sq. ft. replacement recreation center to include a small weight room, a community/aerobics area, a teen center, a small gym, locker rooms and a warm water wellness pool. The current Secrest outdoor pool and inline hockey rink will remain, with activities there continuing as usual during construction.
