Nancy Bielak took first place honors in the annual 60+ Spelling Bee, held March 23 at the Community Recreation Center. This was her third year in a row to capture the first place trophy; to win the 2017 contest, Nancy correctly spelled “obsequious” in the 14th round of the competition.
The second place winner was Roger Dewey and the third place winner was Gailyn Flasco. The three competed in a field of 20 spellers, all of whom navigated many challenging words with grace and good humor. Thanks to event sponsors Arvada Press/Colorado Community Media, PASCO, Brookdale Senior Living Solutions, Celebrate Aging Colorado, Massage Elements, Red Rocks Community College, Life Care Centers of America, Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, and 5340 Coffee.
