Hello,
I was wondering if shorts are highly recommended, would pants be okay to wear to the cycling class?
Hi Kayla.
I would suggest cycling shorts with some padding. However, I have had students spin in class with no padding. Pants will work if you are willing to roll them up to your knees … slim fitting tights may be a good option if you prefer more coverage. Wider-cut pant legs could potentially get caught up in the bike while you’re spinning.
Hope this is helpful!
Janeen, Instructor – Friday 9:15 am express class
Cycling shorts are recommended but Exercise pants are okay to wear to class but they should not be too long or loose fitting.
For clothing, shoot for a breathable short sleeve shirt. If you don’t have the “cycling outfit” then wear tennis shoes or running shoes, shorts or perhaps sweat pants, and bring a face towel. Definitely bring a water bottle, and plan on drinking it during the class. It’s a lot of fun – you’ll love it!
I am worried about being able to keep up in this class – is it filled with super-athletes that intimidate the less fit?
We get a combination of people in our classes. We do have some serious riders and athletes, however we also have a lot of people that come for general fitness, variety and weight loss. The great thing about indoor cycling is that YOU are in charge of YOUR ride. You can modify anything at any time. For example, if the instructor is leading the class on a steep hill climb, you have the option to keep the resistance low or reduce it at any time and no one else will know! I would suggest you start off by trying our new class for beginners. It starts on Tuesday, Oct. 20th at 5:15 pm. It is a 30 min. class and all of the basics of indoor cycling will be covered including bike set-up, safety, intensity, form, and variations (climbing, intervals, jumping, etc). Another option is the Weds. Noon-12:45 pm Express class which is 45 minutes long. All of our other classes run for one-hour, so the two I mentioned would be the best place to start. It is a lot of fun and a great workout. Be sure to bring a water bottle!
I am assuming you cannot “pre-register” for the cycle burn class? So, if you show up at 5:15 am and the class is full, you need to come in at another time?
You are correct. It is first come, first serve.
For the early morning classes, are people truly there 60 minutes before the class to sign up?
For the 5:15 am classes, no. The Apex Center opens at 5 am weekdays. For all other classes, some is there to sign you in 60 minutes before the class. If you’re asking if class participants are there 60 minutes before the class, no, not usually but that is how far in advance that you can actually sign up (no pre-registration).
I am a super beginner. I am looking to lose some weight. Would it be ok if I came?? Or is there a specific day/time for beginners?
Thank you!
Bre,
The great thing about cycle burn is that you can set the resistance on your bike so you can make your workout as easy or hard as you want. Any of the classes are
good for a beginer.
Check out this article about a guy that started out as a beginer and lost 90 lbs: http://apexprd.org/apex-center-guest-loses-90-pounds-one-pedal-at-a-time
Be sure to introduce yourself to the instructor and they will make sure you’re all set up. They really are great.
Thank you Rob! I think I’m going to try the beginners class on Tuesday to get a feel for what I’m getting into. Im ready to be fit again!
Can I wear my tennis shoes?
Absolutely. We have bike with regular pedals, baskets and clipless.
I was wondering how full the noon class on Mondays and Wednesdays usually is. Since it would be during my lunch break, I would not be able to get there very early to sign up.
Thanks!
The Noon class on Mondays and Wednesdays usually draws 8-10 people. We have 15 bikes, so you should have no problem getting a bike even if you can’t arrive early.
I dont see the beginner cycle burn that was on tuesdays at 5:15 listed, is that still available?
Connie,
The Tuesday 5:15 pm Beginner class has been discontinued, for now. We will likely run it again next winter. You are welcome to come to any of our cycling classes, even if you are new to this activity. Just try to arrive at least 5 minutes early and let the instructor know you are new so they can set you up properly on the bike and give you tips for the class.
Thanks Terry. I have gone to the noon classes and really like it. Would be nice to see a 45 minute noon class on Fridays too. Any chance of that happening?
Connie,
It is unlikely that we will add another noon class until fall/winter. Class participation tends to go down as the temperature outside increases, and then people come back inside when it gets colder outside. That being said, we will certainly consider it if the other Noon classes consistently get high numbers. I’m glad you are enjoying the classes!
Hi :)
What is the age requirement to take this class?? I am 15 yrs old and want to start living a healthy and fit lifestyle.
Apex Center fitness classes are ages 16+ but ages 13-15 may attend with a parent or guardian in the class.
Will there ever be an express noon class on Fridays?
Hi Connie,
Sorry, not at this time. We always look at class numbers before we add another timeslot, so possibly this fall/winter.
Is there a chance some new seats could be put on the spin bikes to accommodate women better, seats with the cut-outs or the spongy-wonder seats????? They are very uncomfortable.
We will be ordering new indoor bikes 3rd quarter. You always have the option of bringing your own gel seat cover for a more comfortable ride.
I cycle outside and use SPD type shoes. Do you have some spin cycles set up for this kind of cleat. I’m an amputee and my prosthetic foot falls off a flat pedal. If not can I bring pedals, shoes and pedal wrench?
Yes Cliff,
When will you post your new schedule with the New Sunday Cycle Burn class?
The new schedule has been posted and is effective 1/13/12.
Will there ever be a class added to Saturday a little later in the morning?
Yes, Kristen we will add the second Saturday 8:15am class back to the cycling schedule after Labor Day. The attendance naturally drops during the summer and we always re-evaluate the in the fall. Don’t forget about the current Sunday morning 10:30am class with Renea.
Happy cycling!
Do the early morning 5:15 am classes usually fill up?
Right now the 5:15am classes are about 2/3 full. They will pick up a little in the fall, and come winter they are usually full.
Will there be a beginners class that will be added? I haven’t done it before but want to get back in shape.
Hi Meghan,
You can adapt any cycling class by adjusting the resistance to make the ride easier or staying seated during a standing climb. I would recommend you trying our “Express” classes for 45 min. instead of the full hour to begin with. Good luck!
Can a Thursday 5:45 am class be added so that there is a morning class each day of the week? Terry would be perfect to lead the class.
The CB class schedule continues to change during the winter months. We recently added Tuesday 5:45am with Jon and will take your comment under consideration.
Thank you for the suggestion Milt! Unfortunately I am unable to teach an early class this winter. I might be able to sub from time to time however.
I am considering taking a morning class. I know it’s first come first serve. Do they typically fill fast? How early do you suggest arriving in the morning? Thanks.
Hi Vanessa,
Our facility opens at 5am and classes on M/W/F begins at 5:15am, Tuesday’s 5:45am. The M/W/F classes are popular,so I would advise being here as soon as 5am, so you can reserve a bike/spot and check in at guest services to receive a number card. Happy cycling!
