The third annual Father’s Day 5K Run and Family Fun Run is set for Sunday, June 20. New this year: a deluxe pancake breakfast is included in the fee, and tech shirts for 5K runners and an UGLY TIE CONTEST!

For the fun run, the fee for adults includes breakfast and a cotton blend T-shirt. This event is free for ages 17 & under and ages 60+, with the option to purchase a tech shirt and/or breakfast on race day.

Along with these improvements, we’ve kept your favorite features: a beautiful run in the cool summer morning, family-friendly atmosphere, fun events throughout the day and a great cause…making community youth recreation outstanding and affordable for everyone.

Both events start and end at the Apex Center, 13150 W. 72nd Avenue, Arvada CO. The 5K starts at 8 am and the fun run at 9:30 am. The 5K route winds through the tree-lined neighborhoods west of the Apex Center, and the fun run, approximately 1 mile long, follows the paved trail just to the east and south of the center.

NEW this year…PANCAKE BREAKFAST included in 5K and adult fun run registration fees! Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 10:30 am. For Fun Run participants ages 17 and under or 60+, you can purchase a pancake breakfast at the event. Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be prepared for you by Arvada-Jefferson Kiwanis! For fun run/walk participants under 18 and 60+, the fun run is free and if you want breakfast, it’s $5 for ages 13 and up, $3 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under. Breakfast proceeds go to the Arvada-Wheat Ridge Service Ambassadors for Youth, which helps teens face and overcome challenges.

Ugly Tie Contest!

Young or old, male or female…wear a tie and you could win a prize if it’s judged to be the ugliest. The only rule is that you must keep it on during your event! We’ll choose one winner for the 5K and one for the fun run.

17 and under/60+ 5K: $20 on race day (includes tech shirt, pancake breakfast)

Adult Fun Run: $20 on race day (includes cotton blend T-shirt, pancake breakfast)

17 and under/60+ Fun Run: Free (if you want breakfast, it can be purchased separately at the event)

Proceeds go to the Apex Park and Recreation District Foundation, a non-profit agency dedicated to improving community recreation. This year, the Foundation has designated 100% of the event’s proceeds to youth recreation programs. Both Apex PRD and the Foundation are committed to keeping Arvada’s youth active, so your participation in the 5K/fun run helps kids who otherwise could not afford these recreation programs.

The registration fee includes a tech shirt for the 5K, a T-shirt for the fun run, and a pancake breakfast for both events, hosted by the Arvada-Jefferson Kiwanis. Starting at 9 am in the Apex Center parking lot, you can check out classic cars at the 6th Annual Apex PRD Foundation Father’s Day Car Show, enjoy music, free kids’ activities and refreshments for sale. A great event needs great volunteers. Be a part of the fun—no experience is needed, and there’s a wide variety of tasks and times available. Middle and high school students: if you’re looking for community service hours, this is the perfect opportunity. It’s also a great activity for families or organizations.
