The Apex PRD Community Recreation Center and one of its staff members recently received awards at the Colorado Association of Senior Centers annual conference. Lynn Weis, Recreation Coordinator, received an Outstanding Professional Award for her many years of service to seniors in our community and others. Lynn has worked at Apex PRD for 7 1/2 years, and held previous senior recreation positions in Golden, Thornton and Broomfield. Lynn is responsible for “anything that moves” at the CRC — fitness, dance, trips and volunteers. She also volunteers in various capacities throughout the county and the region to support the cause of well being for older adults. Many thanks to Lynn for her ongoing efforts, and congratulations to her on this recent recognition.

The Community Recreation Center, 6842 Wadsworth Blvd., received an Outstanding Partnership award for its recent collaboration with the Leadership Arvada 2011 class. Leadership Arvada is part of the Arvada Chamber of Commerce and Arvada Economic Development Association. Each year around 25 participants learn about the City of Arvada, including businesses, government, non-profits and more. Each class selects a project to complete for the community, and the 2011 class project was raising $12,000 to provide the CRC with an audio assist system and automatic restroom doors for the McCormack Hall, and special bulletin board for the visually impaired in the lobby, and a sound system and mural for the cardiovascular weight room. Thanks to Leadership Arvada, the Arvada Chamber of Commerce and the Arvada Economic Development Association for their role in creating and sustaining quality and inclusivity at the CRC for today and the future.
