Even though the bikes in the Apex Center’s Cycle Burn program aren’t designed to go anywhere, some cyclists used their imagination and energy to pedal those stationary bikes all the way across America.

For the third year, a big group of enthusiastic cyclists competed in the 2012 Race Across America, which began on April 22 and ended June 30. Riders logged 100 miles for each hour they rode, and the winner was the first one to complete the 3000-mile distance.

The overall top three were Angela Valerio, first place; Steve Morganfield, second place; and Phil Leyva, third place. Angela won two additional months on her Apex Center family pass, Steve won a free nutritional consult and personal training session, and Phil won a 1-hour massage. $25 Gift Card winners were Bernie Aguiliar, Pam Olmstead and Kathy Pfenninger.

A total of 60 riders took part in the 2012 Race Across America. Besides the prizes named above, program benefits included fun, fitness and camaraderie. Thanks to all and congratulations to the winners!

Cycle Burn is a great workout and a wonderful way to keep fit all year.
