165 prom-goers dance the night away at the 6th annual SilverSneakers® Senior Prom

On Friday, May 3, the Arvada Center was the site for this year’s Senior Prom, where the room was transformed into “An Evening In Paris.”

Kicking off the evening (pun intended) were the Rockyettes, a dance troupe based at the Apex Community Recreation Center, who performed a rousing version of the can-can to put everyone in a Parisian state of mind. Brandy Strauch, an Apex PRD Zumba instructor, also energized the crowd by leading a few dances.

For the entire evening, the dance floor was absolutely packed, and event planners said that was the one thing they’d change for next year…have a bigger dance floor!

The Senior Prom also featured a plated dinner, Paris-themed desserts and door prizes. Awards were given for several impressive accomplishments, such as couples who had gone to their high school proms together (including one couple who had been married for over 60 years) and ladies who wore their high school prom dresses. And in a happy twist on high-school prom tradition, the prom king and queen were selected by drawing names from a hat. The lucky royalty: William Scheeley and Kathleen Mullen.

This year, partygoers seemed to take the Paris theme to heart and wore extra glamorous attire.

In between their turns on the dance floor, prom-goers enjoyed many Paris-themed visuals, including art, a video presentation, and a festive Eiffel Tower arbor.
