Community Rallied in Support of Arvada Community Food Bank at Apex PRD Fundraiser
The 3rd annual Rally Against Hunger, held at the Arvada Tennis Center, on Saturday, August 24, continued to grow and thrive in 2013. Participants sailed right through the afternoon rain showers, playing to almost midnight on a warm summer evening. Thanks to the generosity of the tennis community and local businesses, schools and clubs, this year’s event was the most successful year since the event was launched in 2011.
The event raised $1,700 for the Arvada Community Food Bank-a 20% increase over last year! Rally Against Hunger is a fun-filled day of tennis activities, refreshments, music and camaraderie for all levels and ages of players.
If you missed it this year, plan on attending the 2014 edition — and keep in mind that you don’t have to be a tennis player to participate! This year’s event started with tennis activities for youth in the afternoon, progressing to adult drills for all levels, followed by a doubles tennis social; rounding out the evening with players and coaches from Ralston Valley, Arvada West, Arvada, and Standley Lake High Schools playing under the lights. Jif and the Jax provided live musical entertainment. A special thanks to the Ralston Valley players who collected 72 pounds of food to add to the money raised for the Arvada Community Food Bank.
Community support was instrumental in making this year’s Rally Against Hunger a huge success. Arvada Tennis Center staff and members from the North Jeffco Tennis Club volunteered their time. Many thanks to these businesses, schools, and clubs that supported this year’s event: Arvada Rent-Alls, Floyd’s Barbershop, Fuzzy’s Tacos, Heritage College, Jumpin’ Jordy’s, Kwik Dry Clean, Majestic View Nature Center, North Jeffco Tennis Club, Starbucks and Western Bowl.
