On Saturday, April 25, Apex PRD’s annual free Bike Rodeo returned to Secrest Youth and Teen Center, 6820 W. 66th Avenue, Arvada, CO. The popular event drew a crowd of young cyclists and their families to get ready for a safe and active spring and summer.

Highlights of the morning included free bike helmets, provided by Exempla Lutheran Medical Center and individually adjusted for proper fit. The Citizens Police Academy Arvada Alumni hosted the icky but popular “brain drop,” dropping a gelatin-like and brain-shaped substance from a stepladder to show what happens on impact with and without a helmet. Bicycle Village staff stayed busy with the free bike safety check station, and Citizens Police Academy Arvada Alumni hosted the safety skill-building activities and an obstacle course. Other activities included bicycle decorating, face painting, refreshments, demonstrations by Maestas Tae Kwon Do, fire truck tours and lots more.

Thanks to all the event sponsors and community partners: Exempla Lutheran Medical Center, Citizens Police Academy Arvada Alumni, Bicycle Village, Chick Fil-A at 80th & Wadsworth, Ralston House, Arvada Healthy Places Initiative, Arvada Fire District, Arvada Police Department, Hi Country Wire & Telephone, Saunders Construction and Maestas Tae Kwon Do.
