The Community Recreation Center’s 60+ spelling bee is an event for brave hearts and nimble brains. In this year’s contest, held Thursday, March 31, the spellers came from multiple cities and ranged in age from 60s to 80s. The event also included several returning champions and others who placed in past years. Congratulations to Nancy Bielak, first-place winner (she was also last year’s first place winner!), Thomas Kampman, second-place winner, and Cheryl Busch, third-place winner. The spelling bee went 10 rounds and the winning word was “satellite.” Thanks to the event sponsors: the Arvada Press, Brookdale Senior Living, PASCO, Homewatch Caregivers and Celebrate Aging Colorado—and to the volunteers and spectators for helping to create such a successful annual event.
