Simms Street Recreation Center completes transformation, celebrates with open house
On Saturday, August 26, the Simms Street Recreation Center, 11706 W. 82nd Ave., Arvada, was a showcase of fun and activity as it celebrated its grand opening as a multi-use magnet facility. Hundreds of visitors stopped by to see the facility, sample all the new fitness and art activities, watch demos, play in the gym with the kids, and enjoy tours, refreshments and socializing. The latest additions include a gymnasium, an art/craft room, and a health and fitness room.
Demos and sample activities were especially popular, with the skills and enthusiasm of the talented Apex PRD instructors appealing to all ages and abilities. The new gym, one of the most anticipated features of the renovation project, had a multi-purpose neighborhood feel, with parents joining kids on the basketball court and in the sports and play features set up throughout the room.
Many visitors took part in guided tours conducted by Apex staff, and everyone came away with a better idea of this valuable community asset, now complete after a multi-phase, multi-year buildout. “Collaboration made this dream a reality,” said Simms Street Recreation Center Manager Carrie Gomer. “We now have a facility that meets many needs and will continue to do so for the future.”
