A Magical Special Night With Santa

December 14 was a night to remember with Santa – the Apex PRD Therapeutic Recreation Department hosted a night for people with special needs to have Santa all to themselves. The quiet yet festive event was held at Indian Tree Golf Club, where tables were set up with snacks, crafts and slime to play with. Santa met with each individual based on their needs; some jumped at the chance to meet Santa and tell them what they wanted, while others needed time to get acquainted. The activity tables provided a relaxed environment so that kids could feel comfortable before approaching the big guy. Santa even brought a reindeer to sit on for older individuals or those who didn’t want to sit on his lap! People visiting Santa ranged in age from 4 to 40.

Overall, the night was magical. Many parents commented that their children had never met Santa due to different disabilities and the possibility of long waits in line at the mall. Santa himself said he fell in love with everyone and can’t wait to come back next year for this new annual event!

Keep your eyes peeled for details on our next holiday event close to Easter. Meanwhile, if you have any questions regarding the Therapeutic Recreation program and what we offer, please contact Julie Hines, CTRS at 303.467.7158 or julieh@apexprd.org.
