Part-time Lead Camp Counselor – Secest Center

Title of Position: Lead Camp Counselor

Classification: Part-Time

Division: Recreation Services

Reports To: Recreation Coordinator II- Youth/Teen

Salary: $12.43 – $13. 76/hour

General Purpose:

The Day Camp Lead Counselor is responsible for providing supervision, instruction, and ongoing assistance to program staff and campers as well as assisting the Camp Director in facilitating, developing and implementing daily programming. A primary function of this role is to ensure that each camper and family receives the highest caliber of service. The Day Camp Lead Counselor will assign/oversee staff tasks (set up/take down of equipment/supplies, etc.); supervise campers and implement assigned programs; follow protocol regarding handling of behaviors and special needs; administer all medical protocol as directed; communicate all pertinent issues affecting programs to the Camp Director; establish good rapport with families of the program campers as well as keeping them informed about concerns affecting the campers.


Schedule will vary between 6:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M.

Monday thru Friday from May 28 through August 9

Paid training dates: April 27, May 4, May 11 and May 18; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parent’s Night: May 14; 6- 8 p.m. (Apex Center), May 16; 6-8 p.m. (Secrest Center)

Job Qualifications:

The Day Camp Lead Counselor must have at least three (3) months (460 hours) of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and verifiable experience with school-age children.

be at least 18 years of age, demonstrate ability to work with children, and must meet the following qualifications:

Complete the Department-approved course in injury prevention before May 24, 2019

Complete the Department-approved course in playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers before May 24, 2019;

Must have a Valid Colorado Driver’s License, appropriate insurance coverage and acceptable driving record for the past three years to drive Apex PRD vehicles.

  1. Must currently hold certification in or be able to become trained in First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration and Universal Precautions Certified if not will have before May 29, 2019
  2. Ability to drive a 12-passenger van, with a clean driving record if obtains a Valid Co Driver’s License
  3. Must have a satisfactory review with the Central Registry of Child Protection before May 29, 2019
  4. Provide 3 references
