Title of Position: Therapeutic Recreation Lead Camp Counselor

Classification: Part-Time

Division: Recreation Services

Reports To: Recreation Coordinator II- Youth/Teen

Salary: $12.43 – $13. 76/hour

General Purpose:

This position’s primary responsibility is to work with individuals with disabilities in an inclusive recreational day camp setting. Duties may include planning and implementation of the daily activities for all age levels. This individual will provide a safe, healthy and positive environment for all participants. This person has experience working directly with children with special needs. A primary function of this role is to ensure that each camper and family receives the highest caliber of service. The TR Day Camp Lead Counselor will oversee staff tasks (set up/take down of equipment/supplies, etc.); supervise campers and implement assigned programs; follow protocol regarding handling of behaviors and special needs; administer all medical protocol as directed; communicate all pertinent issues affecting programs to the Camp Director; establish good rapport with families of the program campers as well as keeping them informed about concerns affecting the campers.


Schedule will vary between 8:00-5:00.

Monday thru Friday from May 28 through August 9

Paid training dates: April 27, May 4, May 11 and May 18; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parent’s Night: May 14; 6- 8 p.m. (Apex Center), May 16; 6-8 p.m. (Secrest Center)

Job Qualifications:

Complete the Department-approved course in injury prevention before May 24, 2019

Complete the Department-approved course in playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers before May 24, 2019;

Must have a Valid Colorado Driver’s License, appropriate insurance coverage and acceptable driving record for the past three years to drive Apex PRD vehicles.

Must currently hold certification in or be able to become trained before May 29, 2019 in

First Aid, CPR,

Medication Administration and

Universal Precautions Certified

Ability to drive a 12-passenger van, with a clean driving record

Must have a satisfactory review with the Central Registry of Child Protection
