BOARD OF DIRECTORS

February 6, 2020

CALL TO ORDER

President Glenn called to order the February 6, 2020 meeting of the Board of Directors of Apex Park and Recreation District, held at 6:30 pm at the Apex Center Randall Room, 13150 W. 72nd Avenue, Arvada, CO. Board members in attendance were: Jeff Glenn, Ken Harrell, Vicki Pyne, Stephanie Allen, and Liz Tomsula. District staff members present were Lauri Dannemiller – Executive Director; Jeff Leniger – Director of Finance; Tara Torline – Director of Human Resources; Katie Groke – Director of Marketing and Communications; and Rheana Rogers – Executive Administrator and Recording Secretary. Members of the public present were Abby McNeal, APAC.


APPROVAL OF AGENDA

MOTION: Director Pyne moved for approval of the modified Agenda – moving item 3 to the top of the agenda. Director Harrell seconded and the motion passed unanimously.


APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 16, 2020 BOARD MEETING

MOTION: Director Pyne moved for approval of the minutes. Director Tomsula seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

There was none.


NEW BUSINESS

  1. Naming Policy Update – Lauri Dannemiller

A revised policy based on suggestions provided by the Board was presented. This revisions added clarification of what is defined and qualifies as a facility.

MOTION: Director Tomsula moved for acceptance of the proposed revised Naming Policy. Director Allen seconded and the motion passed unanimously.


  1. Employee Handbook Update –
    Tara Torline and Lauri Dannemiller

Extensive handbook revisions have been drafted for the Board to review in a work session at this meeting. A final revision will be presented for formal adoption at a future meeting. The objective is to have one handbook for all employees; the past version was exclusively for full-time staff. This version covers full-time, part-time, and part-time benefitted positions. The Board reviewed and discussed all suggested revisions.

  1. Supplemental Appropriations (General and Capital Funds) – Jeff Leniger

MOTION: Director Harrell moved for acceptance of APRD2020-04 Resolution for 2019 Budget Supplemental Appropriation. Director Pyne seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

MOTION: Director Harrell moved for acceptance of APRD2020-05 Resolution for 2020 Budget Supplemental Appropriation. Director Allen seconded and the motion passes unanimously.




OLD/OTHER BUSINESS

There is none.


EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT

Ms. Dannemiller shared with the Board the recent Ellis and Associates award given to our Aquatics Department. Tomorrow at Secrest is Apex’s American Heart Association Go Red Day event at the Secrest Recreation Center to raise awareness of heart health and our Check. Change. Control. program.


BOARD MEMBER REPORTS/INPUT

President Glenn noted that the Art for Young at Heart exhibit is going on at the Community Recreation Center. He attended the Foundation meeting this morning where they observed a presentation from Hillary Rosmersberger and Michelle Stout demonstrating the Kinetisense software funded by the Foundation. There was continued discussion of the pickleball and golf tournaments and the Father’s Day car show. There was also continued discussion of using invested endowment funds to fund smaller projects.

Director Harrell will be attending Roundtable tomorrow.

Director Pyne reported that she attended and enjoyed the recent Chamber dinner. At the recent Kiwanis meeting she shared a CASA presentation.

Director Tomsula also enjoyed the recent Chamber dinner.

Director Allen reported she is thrilled with the new Ninja programming at Simms Street and that her child is enjoying the class tremendously.

MOTION: Director Allen moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Pyne seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

President Glenn adjourned the meeting at 8:05 p.m.
