BOARD OF DIRECTORS
May 6, 2021
CALL TO ORDER
President Pyne called to order the May 6, 2021 meeting of the Board of Directors of Apex Park and Recreation District, held at 6:30 p.m. in the Apex Center Randall Room, 13150 W. 72nd Ave., Arvada, CO and virtually online via Accession video/audio meeting. Board members in attendance in person were Vicki Pyne, Ken Harrell, Liz Tomsula, and Rich Garrimone. Director Stephanie Allen was absent; her absence was excused. District staff members present in person were Lauri Dannemiller – Executive Director, Rheana Rogers – Executive Administrator and Recording Secretary, Mark Baird – Director of District Services, Hillary Roemersberger – Director of Recreation Services, Justin Maillet – Director of Recreation Services, Whitney Walker – Recreation Program Manager, and Julie Hines – Assistant Recreation Manager. District staff members present virtually were Dana Bammerlin – Assistant Recreation Manager and Jeff Leniger – Director of Finance. Member of the public present was Abby McNeal – APAC.
MOTION: Director Tomsula moved to excuse Director Allen from the meeting. Director Harrell seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
MOTION: Director Tomsula moved for approval of the Agenda. Director Harrell seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 15, 2021 BOARD MEETING
MOTION: Director Garrimone moved for approval of the Minutes. Director Harrell seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
There was none.
1. 2020 Budget Amendment Resolution – Jeff Leniger
Mr. Leniger shared an amendment encompassing basic financial housekeeping for formalizing the final resolutions for the 2020 fiscal audit currently in progress.
MOTION: Director Tomsula moved to approve resolution APRD2021 Resolution to Amend 2020 Budget and Transfer Between Governmental Funds. Director Harrell seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
2. New Staff Introductions – Lauri Dannemiller
Ms. Dannemiller reported that five new full-time employees are present at the meeting to be introduced to the Board. Theresa Hynes introduced Lindsay Hofer, Recreation Coordinator at the Field House. Julie Hines introduced Steven Shubert, Guest Services Specialist. Whitney Walker introduced Erin Johansen-Hart and Michelle Mickelson, Field Maintenance Specialists. Justin Maillet introduced Kris Lewis, Recreation Coordinator for Aquatics, and Maggie Sherrill, Head Lifeguard at Meyers Pool.
3. Community Table Golf Tournament Sponsorship – Lauri Dannemiller
The Board has sponsored this golf tournament in the past and is being asked again this year to sponsor their fundraising tournament. There is funding in the budget for Board sponsorships.
MOTION: Director Tomsula moved for the Board to sponsor one hole in the Community Table Golf Tournament for $500. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
4. Executive Session – Lauri Dannemiller
MOTION: Director Harrell moved to go into executive session pursuant to §24-6-402(4)(e), C.R.S., determining positions relative to matters that may be subject to negotiations, specifically IGA with the City of Arvada. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting resumed in executive session at 6:58 p.m.
MOTION: Director Garrimone moved to go out of executive session. Director Harrell seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The open meeting resumed at 8:05 p.m.
Justin Maillet, Recreation Director, is departing the district after 15 years of service. Ms. Dannemiller and the Board presented Mr. Maillet with a gift of appreciation and expressed their gratitude for his service.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT
Ms. Dannemiller reminded the Board that staff work teams will need to have board member representatives assigned to them.
BOARD MEMBER REPORTS/INPUT
President Pyne reported the Meyers pool reconstruction project is still awaiting partnership approval from Jefferson County Public Schools. The school board will be discussing this at an upcoming meeting. She also attended today’s Coordinating Committee meeting with the City held at Indian Tree Golf Club.
Director Harrell attended today’s Coordinating Committee meeting with the City.
Director Garrimone reported the Foundation met this morning. Planning for the Memorial Day Pickleball Tournament is progressing, and registrations are starting to come in. The golf tournament is being planned for September 10. The Golf Master Plan team interviewed the three firms that were selected as finalists for the planning and one firm really impressed the team. Ms. Dannemiller reported that the next steps will be negotiation of the fee with the selected firm so design work can begin.
Director Tomsula had nothing to report.
MOTION: Director Harrell moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Tomsula seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
President Pyne adjourned the meeting at 8:17 p.m.
