Board of Directors

Call to Order

President Pyne called to order April 20, 2023, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:30 pm at the Apex Center. Board members in attendance in person were Vicki Pyne, Rich Garrimone, Liz Tomsula, Abby McNeal, and Jo Burns. District employees in attendance were Jeff Glenn – Executive Director; Monica Bowser – Marketing Administrator and recording secretary; Laina Doyle – Recreation Manager; Michelle Stout – Recreation Manager; Riki Rarick – Emergency Services Manager; Dana Bammerlin – Recreation Manager; Scott Gibson – Grounds Manager; Sarah Heaton – Recreation Coordinator; Laura Schwenker – Recreation Coordinator.


MOTION: Abbey moved for approval of the agenda. Liz Tomsula seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.


MOTION: Director Garrimone moved for approval of the Minutes. Jo Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.


There was no public input.


1. New Employee Introductions – Rachel Lucero-Recreation Specialist; Marissa Newland-Recreation Specialist

Tyler Daly introduced Rachel Lucero from Meyers. Rachel is also a part-time National Guard.

Tyler Daly introduced Marissa Newland from Apex. Marissa moved from New York.

Felicia is not able to attend tonight. She will be introduced on May 4.

2. Seniors Who Shine – CRC Staff

Sarah Heaton introduced what Seniors Who Shine is about. In 2022, 5500 hours were put into volunteering. Our volunteers saved the district over $164,000 dollars in 2022.

Michelle Stout introduced Carolyn Pearson, who was unable to attend. Michelle read about how amazing Carolyn is and how much she does for CRC, working in the weight room and helping with events.

Sarah Heaton introduced Jeanette Price. Jeanette has been with us since 2008. Jeanette works with the crafty seniors, the art reach program, and more.

Michelle Stout introduced Jeralyn Westerhoff, who was unable to attend. Jeralyn began volunteering in 1995. She heads up the library and its volunteers. She was also a senior hero last year.

Sarah Heaton introduced Kathy Mitchell, who has been a craft carousel since 2013. Kathy has a master’s in arts and displays. She is a consigner. Kathy helps judge Art for the young at heart.

Laura Schwenker introduced Linda Lentz, who has volunteered since 2018 as a front desk volunteer. Doctorate in Ed Psychology. Ran a bed and breakfast for 17 years.

Sarah Heaton introduced Linda Monroe, who began volunteering in 2001. Craft Carousel and is the secretary.

Laura Schwenker introduced Renate Rigau, who has been part of the apple dumpling gang since 2018. Makes a cake every month for Bunco.

Michelle Stout introduced Sally Collins, who could not attend tonight. Fellow Senior Hero recipient. Has contributed 2800 volunteer hours.

Michelle gave a wrap-up, beautifully said, about how much our volunteers do, specific volunteers and how much they give back to the community, help at CRC, and how we could not do our jobs without them.

3. Aquatics Presentation – Hillary Roemersberger

Hillary Roemersberger presented aquatics staffing for summer 2023. Ms. Roemersberger mentioned increased wages, bonus programs, and the new STAR program.

Bob McDonnell with OLC presented a 3-D rendering for the future Meyers project.


Jeff Glenn announced Community Table’s request to sponsor their annual golf tournament.

MOTION: Director McNeal motioned that we support the Community Table Golf

Tournament at the $2,500 level. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed


Jeff Glenn reminded the BOD about the upcoming Arvada Center gala.


Jeff Glenn reported that Michelle Stout has been named the Young Professional of the Year by the Arvada Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Glenn also announced that we surpassed 9,000 followers on Facebook. Mr. Glenn also announced the success of the April Fools Day post.

Mr. Glenn announced the upcoming audit in Finance. He also mentioned that we have almost completed the security camera installation.

Mr. Glenn gave an update on the installation of the new cooling towers at the Apex Center. He also mentioned the departure of Jay Mauer as the Manager of the Apex Center. He got a job in the Town of Erie.


Director Garrimone reported on the Apex Foundation meeting. They are advertising for their annual Pickleball Tournament over Memorial Day weekend.

Director Burns reported out about the Kiwanis meeting. Apex’s very own Jeff Glenn will be speaking at the meeting next week. She also announced Apex’s support for the Ralston House pinwheels.

Director Pyne attended the Arvada Chamber luncheon and enjoyed learning about the different organizations in Arvada.


MOTION: Director Burns moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director McNeal seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Director Pyne adjourned the meeting at 8:01 pm.
