BOARD OF DIRECTORS
April 6, 2023

CALL TO ORDER

President Pyne called to order April 6, 2023, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:30 pm at the Apex Center. Board members in attendance in person were Vicki Pyne, Rich Garrimone, Abby McNeal, and Jo Burns. District employees in attendance were Jeff Glenn – Executive Director; Katie Groke – Director of Community Services and Recording Secretary; Monica Bowser – Marketing Administrator; Mark Baird – Director of District Services; Hillary Roemersberger – Director of Recreation Services; Michelle Stout –Recreation Manager; Julie Hines – Recreation Manager; Riki Rarick – Emergency Services Manager; Dana Bammerlin – Recreation Manager; Monica Bowser – Marketing Administrator; Scott Gibson – Grounds Manager and Dana Bammerlin – Recreation Manager.

APPROVAL OF THE ABSENCE OF LIZ TOMSULA

MOTION: Director McNeal motioned to excuse the absence of Liz Tomsula. Director

Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

MOTION: Director Burns moved for approval of the agenda. Director McNeal seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MARCH 2, 2023, BOARD MEETING

MOTION: Director Garrimone moved for approval of the Minutes. Director McNeal seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

PUBLIC INPUT

There was no public input.

NEW BUSINESS

1. New Employee Introductions – Nikki Cotto, Guest Services Specialist, and Matt Austin, Manager of Parks and Grounds

Julie Hines introduced Nikki Cotto as the new Guest Services Specialist.

Mark Baird introduced Matt Austin as the new Manager of Parks and Grounds.

2. Stay Survey – Jeff Glenn

Jeff Glenn shared the results of the staff stay survey. Overall the results were very positive. Mr. Glenn announced a plan to increase the budget for 2024 for professional training.

3. Aquatics Presentation – Hillary Roemersberger

Hillary Roemersberger presented aquatics staffing for summer 2023. Ms. Roemersberger mentioned increased wages, bonus programs, and the new STAR program.

Bob McDonnell with OLC presented a 3-D rendering for the future Meyers project.

OLD/OTHER BUSINESS

Jeff Glenn announced Community Table’s request to sponsor their annual golf tournament.

MOTION: Director McNeal motioned that we support the Community Table Golf

Tournament at the $2,500 level. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed

unanimously.

Jeff Glenn reminded the BOD about the upcoming Arvada Center gala.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT

Jeff Glenn reported that Michelle Stout has been named the Young Professional of the Year by the Arvada Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Glenn also announced that we surpassed 9,000 followers on Facebook. Mr. Glenn also announced the success of the April Fools Day post.

Mr. Glenn announced the upcoming audit in Finance. He also mentioned that we have almost completed the security camera installation.

Mr. Glenn gave an update on the installation of the new cooling towers at the Apex Center. He also mentioned the departure of Jay Mauer as the Manager of the Apex Center. He got a job in the Town of Erie.

BOARD MEMBER REPORTS/INPUT

Director Garrimone reported on the Apex Foundation meeting. They are advertising for their annual Pickleball Tournament over Memorial Day weekend.

Director Burns reported out about the Kiwanis meeting. Apex’s very own Jeff Glenn will be speaking at the meeting next week. She also announced Apex’s support for the Ralston House pinwheels.

Director Pyne attended the Arvada Chamber luncheon and enjoyed learning about the different organizations in Arvada.

ADJOURNMENT

MOTION: Director Burns moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director McNeal seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Director Pyne adjourned the meeting at 8:01 pm.
