March 2, 2023
CALL TO ORDER
Vice President Tomsula called to order the March 2, 2023, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:30 pm at the Apex Center. Board members in attendance in person were Liz Tomsula, Rich Garrimone, Abby McNeal and Jo Burns. District employees in attendance were Jeff Glenn – Executive Director; Katie Groke – Director of Community Services and Recording Secretary; Monica Bowser – Marketing Administrator; Mark Baird – Director of District Services; Jesse Badder – Director of Recreation Services; Michelle Stout – Assistant Recreation Manager; Steven Schubert – Recreation Coordinator; Laina Doyle – Recreation Manager; Janice Lefholz – Administrator; Hillary Roemersberger – Recreation Services Director; Dana Bammerlin – Recreation Manager; and Marco Borghi – Recreation Generalist.
APPROVAL OF THE ABSENCE OF VICKI PYNE
MOTION: Director Burns motioned to excuse the absence of Vicki Pyne. Director
Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
MOTION: Director McNeal moved for approval of the agenda. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 2, 2023, BOARD MEETING
MOTION: Director Garrimone moved for approval of the Minutes. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Jason Bolton, President of NJTC presented to the Board and invited them to their anniversary celebration at the ATC.
Kevin Thistle, Vice President of NJTC presented to the Board the importance of tennis in our community.
Amy Weiland presented to the board about the resignation of a youth basketball coach.
Helen Collard presented to the board about the resignation of a youth basketball coach.
1. New Employee Introductions – Marco Borghi – Recreation Generalist – Dana Bammerlin
Dana Bammerlin, Recreation Manager introduced Marco Borghi as the new Recreation Generalist in Aquatics.
2. Camp Update – Jesse Badder
Jesse Badder, Director of Recreation Services presented updates on Camp Apex and the addition of Camp Fitz to the Camp portfolio this summer.
3. Amended COA IGA – Jeff Glenn
Jeff Glenn, Executive Director presented the first amended version of the City of Arvada Master IGA. The amended IGA includes a land lease behind the Apex Center in exchange for usage of the Wardle property for APD training.
MOTION: Director Garrimone moved for approval of the first amendment to the COA Master IGA. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT
Jeff Glenn reported out on the expanded pool hours at the Apex Center.
BOARD MEMBER REPORTS/INPUT
Director Burns announced Director McNeal’s involvement as a regent for the NRPA’s Maintenance Management School.
Director Burns attended the Arvada Chamber State of Childcare event. Ms. Burns mentioned her pride in being part of an organization trying to mitigate the childcare shortage.
Director Burns reported out that per the Kiwanis meetings, there is a shortage in food at Community Table. She also reported out about a presentation from Hope House and the potential partnership with Apex.
Director Garrimone reported out on the Foundation meeting and the start of the organizing around the upcoming Pickleball tournament.
Director Garrimone reported out on the City Coordinating meeting. Director Tomsula mentioned how happy she is with the partnership.
MOTION: Director Burns moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Director Tomsula adjourned the meeting at 7:21 pm.
