Kids’ yoga class connects with play, imagination

Kids' Yoga

When planning fun activities to do with your 2-5 year old, yoga probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. For a preschooler, traits like patience, focus and slow, deliberate movements; well, they’re probably not what you’d expect to see for at least another decade. Or perhaps yoga feels like “grown-up time” to be enjoyed when you have a rare moment of solitude.

Either way, here’s a reason to re-think those conclusions: Kids’ Yoga at Secrest Youth and Teen Center! Parents can choose to participate or drop off their children; either way, the price is the same.

Children learn basic yoga poses through play and imagination, along with age-appropriate instruction on breathing techniques, focus and balance. They’ll also build motor skills and gain confidence. Classes also include art-making to add variety and fun. Art supplies are provided; donated supplies are welcome. All this in one fun-filled hour, 9:30 to 10:30 am on Fridays! The next session starts October 7.

Try it out, with or without your youngster; it’s a wonderful and unique way to add imagination, play and movement to your day.
