Call to Order

Director Tomsula called to order March 21, 2024, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:30 pm at the Apex Center Randall Room. Board members in attendance in person were Rich Garrimone, Liz Tomsula, Jo Burns, and Abby McNeal. District employees in attendance were Jeff Glenn-Executive Director, Riki Rarick – Emergency Services Manager, Mark Baird – Director of District Services, Monica Bowser – Marketing Administrator and recording secretary, Janice Lefholtz – District Services, Ali Everingham – Recreation Generalist-Youth Enrichment/Camps/Preschool, Doug Hahn-Golf Pro Shop Attendant, Darren Bjorlin – District Services, Rudy Castaneda – Manager of Golf, Kelly Scharfenberg – Recreation Coordinator, Laina Doyle – Recreation Manager

Approval of President Vicki Pyne Excused Absence

Motion: Director McNeal moved for approval of the excused absence of President Pyne.

Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Agenda

Motion: Director McNeal moved for approval of the agenda. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Minutes of the February 15, 2023, Board Meeting

Motion: Director Burns moved for approval of the minutes. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

New Business

  • New Employee Introductions – Jeff Glenn
    • Doug Hahn – Golf Pro Shop Attendant
    • Allie Everingham – Recreation Generalist-Youth Enrichment/Camps/Preschool
    • Kelli Scharfenberg – Recreation Coordinator
  • Storm Water IGA approval – Mark Baird
    • Motion: Director Garrimone motioned to approve Storm Water IGA. Director McNeal seconded the motion. All in favor.
  • DEN Tablerock-Easement Right of Entry Consent – Mark Baird
    • Motion: Director Burns motioned to approve DEN Tablerock Easement Right of Entry Consent. Director McNeal seconded the motion. All in favor.

Old/Other Business

There was none.

Executive Director Report

  • Glenn reported out about the design process for the trail connection for Clear Creek and 72nd; moving forward along with the archery range.
  • We received a $10,000 grant for a summer intern from the Arvada Chamber.
  • City Council decided to name Meyers Pool the new name will be AAC. Arvada Aquatics Center; roof section is going up soon. Occupation late September, programming October.
  • Aquatics issues this week: not opening after the heavy snow for 4 days; now reopened. Lighting challenges over activity pool which is the slide area; will be fixed by Tuesday, March 26.
  • Touch-A-Truck was the largest we have ever had. 500 kiddos, plus their families.
  • We received a grant for a brand-new bus for before and after school care for the 2024-2025 school year: working on the RFP. Will be a 12-passenger bus with handicapped accessibility.

Board Member Reports/Input

Director McNeal: Amazed at part-time staff that move to full-time and are best candidates; says a lot about the district.

Director Garrimone: Foundation is getting ready for the pickleball tournament. Brought on BW3 as a sponsor; 10% of tab will go to the foundation. Monica will share the post from foundation.

Director Tomsula: Nothing to report.

Director Burns: Went to the city council on Monday to hear the new name of Meyers.

Motion: Director Garrimone moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Director Tomsula adjourned the meeting at 7:05 pm.
