January 2, 2025 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Call To Order

President Pyne called to order the January 2, 2025, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:30 pm at the Apex Center. Board members in attendance in person were Vicki Pyne, Rich Garrimone, Liz Tomsula, Jo Burns and Abby McNeal. District employees in attendance were Katie Groke – Director of Community Services and Recording Secretary; Riki Rarick – Safety and Emergency Manager; Monica Bowser – Community Services Manager; Kelly Bowser – Manager of Parks and Grounds, Mark Baird – Director of District Services, Darren Bjorlin – Capital Improvements and Building Access Control

Approval of Agenda

MOTION: Director Tomsula moved to approve the agenda. Director McNeal seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Minutes of The DECEMBER 5, 2024, Board Meeting

MOTION: Director Garrimone moved to approve the minutes. Director Tomsula seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Public Input

There was no public input.

New Business

  1. New Employee Introductions – Jeff Glenn
    • Kelly Bowser-Manager of Parks and Grounds

Mr. Baird introduced Mr. Bowser as the new Manager of Parks and Grounds in District Services.

  1. Resolution APRD2025-01 for Designating Location to Post 24-Hour (Agenda) Notice – Jeff Glenn

MOTION: Director McNeal moved to approve Resolution APRD2025-01 for Designating the Location to Post 24-Hour (Agenda) Notice. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

  1. Resolution APRD2025-02 to Set Day of Month, Time, and Location of 2024 Regular Board Meetings – Jeff Glenn

MOTION: Director Tomsula moved to approve Resolution APRD2025-02 to Set Day of Month, Time, and Location of 2024 Regular Board Meetings. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

  1. 2024 Grants review and report out – Jeff Glenn

Mr. Glenn and Ms. Groke reported on the results of our 2024 grant program.

Old/Other Business

Mr. Glenn reported that the archery range permits have been approved, and the project is out to RFP.

Executive Director Report

Mr. Glenn announced to the BOD that in 2025, Team Apex will take on the FISH! Philosophy.

Mr. Glenn also updated the BOD on some staffing changes at Apex. There is a new Marketing Assistant position currently open, Special Events Coordinator position is open, Nate Rothman is moving to a full-time position at AAC, Marco Borghi is moving over to the Safety and Emergency Management area, there is an open Admin Coordinator position open at Simms Street Recreation Center after the retirement of the current admin coordinator and because of the departure of the Recreation Coordinator at CRC we are also hiring for that position.

Board Member Reports

DIRECTOR BURNS:

Director Burns reported that Kiwanis has been busy and that she had an article printed in the latest NRPA magazine.

DIRECTOR MCNEAL:

Director McNeal reported that she will be absent at the next meeting for an industry conference. She mentioned her family has taken full advantage of the Apex facilities and programs with her family in town and thanked the staff for their hard work.

DIRECTOR GARRIMONE:

Director Garrimone reported that there was no Foundation meeting this morning, but there will be next week. He also mentioned that the golf project is progressing very well.

DIRECTOR TOMSULA:

Director Tomsula thanked Mr. Glenn for the holiday dinner.

PRESIDENT PYNE:

President Pyne congratulated staff on a successful TR holiday program.

MOTION: Director Burns moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

President Pyne adjourned the meeting at 7:03 pm.
