May 15, 2025 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Call To Order

President Pyne called to order the May 15, 2025, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:30 pm at the Apex Center. The board members in attendance in person were Vicki Pyne, Liz Tomsula, Jo Burns and Lynn Emrick. District employees in attendance were Riki Rarick-Safety and Emergency Manager; Katie Groke-Community Services Director-Recording Secretary; Darren Bjorn-Manger District Services, Laina Doyle-Recreation Manager, Hillary Roemersberger – Director of Recreation Services and Mark Baird-Director of District Services.

Approval of Absence of Director Rich Garrimone

MOTION: Director Tomsula moved to approve the agenda. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Agenda

MOTION: Director Burns moved to approve the agenda. Director Emrick seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Minutes of the April 17, 2025, Board Meeting

MOTION: Director Burns moved to approve the minutes. Director Tomsula seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Public Input

New Business

· Swearing in of Board of Directors – Jeff Glenn

President Pyne swore in elected board members Lynn Emrick, Liz Tomsula and Jo Burns.

· New Employee Introduction – Hillary Roemersberger

Ms. Roemersberger introduced Dawn Bennett as the new Recreation Coordinator at Secrest Recreation Center.

· Camps Update – Hillary Roemersberger

Ms. Roemersberger presented an update on the upcoming licensed summer camps at Apex. She gave an overview of all five licensed camps this summer.

Old/Other Business

Jeff Glenn reported that dirt is moving at the archery range, and construction has started. He also noted that we received a temporary certificate of occupancy for the Indian Tree Cart Barn. We will get a permanent certificate of occupancy once we plant six trees.

Mr. Glenn updated the Board about the trail connection in the Apex Center parking lot, and the permit is moving along; we do not have to do a traffic study as part of that project.

Executive Director Report

Mr. Glenn reported that there is new concrete in the front part of the Apex Center near the pond. He also updated the board that mowing has started at the facilities.

Mr. Glenn updated the board about the front desk project at the Apex Center and the progress being made.

Mr. Glenn informed the board that the June 5 BOD meeting has been moved to June 12 to accommodate the auditor’s report. He also noted that we are hosting new BOD orientation at Indian Tree on June 24 from 9 am – 3 pm.

Mr. Glenn reported that we finally hit over 10,000 followers on Facebook, and we are at 10,022.

Mr. Glenn attended the Jeffco Director’s meeting this morning, which was hosted at Indian Tree.

Mr. Glenn announced that the City of Arvada will be doing a Pride Proclamation in June and honoring Apex for their pride efforts.

Mr. Glenn asked the BOD how they would like to sponsor the Community Table fundraiser this year.

Board Member Reports

Director Emrick:

Director Emrick announced her appreciation for her election and is excited to work with everyone.

Director Tomsula:

Director Tomsula announced her appreciation for re-election and is excited to work with everyone.

Director Burns:

Director Burns announced the Kiwanis Cornhole tournament and reported out on the ARSWAY Breakfast event. She also let the BOD know about the Arvada Summer Fest coming up in June.

Director Burns shouted out Hillary and her Aquatics team for their story in Recreation Magazine.

President Pyne:

Nothing to report.

Adjournment

MOTION: Director Tomsula moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Bruns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

President Pyne adjourned the meeting at 7:39 pm.
