July 17, 2025 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Call to Order

President Pyne called to order the July 17, 2025, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:33 pm at the Apex Center. The board members in attendance in person were Vicki Pyne, Liz Tomsula, Rich Garrimone, Jo Burns and. District employees in attendance were Jeff Glenn, Executive Director, Julie Hines, Director of Recreation Services, Mark Baird, Director of District Services, Travis Ritchie, Director of Technology Services, George Robb, Technology Services, Jeremy Ocanas, Apex Hospitality, Darren Bjorlin, Capital Project Manager and Building Access Control Specialist, Russ Cagnoni, Apex Center Ice Arena, Vee Duran, Special Events Coordinator, Monica Bowser, Community Services Manager, Rik Rarick, Safety Manager.

Approval of Absence of Director Lynn Emrick

MOTION: Director Tomsula moved to approve the absence of Director Emrick. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Agenda

MOTION: Director Garrimone moved to approve the agenda. Director Tomsula seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Minutes June 12 Meeting

MOTION: Director Garrimone moved to approve the June 12 board meeting minutes. Director Tomsula seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Old/Other Business

Executive Director Report

  • Need foursome for the Chamber golf tourney which is August 22. They will let us know who the foursome is soon.
  • Foundation Golf Tournament foursomes are Liz, Vicki, Rich, and Lynn
  • Star Guard was here today.
  • Today, we helped the city of Arvada and the Arvada Visitors Center host a site visit for the 2030 Gay Games. It went great. Shout out to district staff who jumped in to help.
  • Arvada Aquatics Center will be taking the month of August to work through the warranty issues of the building and will close August 2-September 2 and fix all the things that need to be fixed. We will post on social media and put up signage.
  • Next Tuesday, July 22, Channel 7 is broadcasting all morning, afternoon, and evening broadcast in Arvada and will be live at 6 pm with Mayor Simpson. All things Arvada. Apex PRD will be a part of it.

Board Member Reports

Director Tomsula: Thank you to our staff for supporting the community members.

Director Garrimone: Foundation Golf Tourney August 15. Looking for 7 foursomes. Rich got a hole in one at Indian Tree.

Director Burns: Kiwanis Toss ‘n for Tots charity cornhole tourney is coming up. Brad Hull is helping push that, and they are grateful for that. The stroke coordinator came to Kiwanis and taught how to identify strokes.

President Pyne: The taste of Arvada was awesome. Without Julie and her staff, it would not have run as well. Fantastic night. Thank you to Rik and his team. Lots of chamber compliments.

MOTION: Director Garrimone moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

President Pyne adjourned the meeting at 7:09 pm.
