June 18, 2026, Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Call to Order

President Pyne called to order the June 18, 2026, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:30 pm at the Apex Center. Board members in attendance were Vicki Pyne, Rich Garrimone, Jo Burns and Liz Tomsula. District employees in attendance were Executive Director Jeff Glenn; Director of Community Services and Recording Secretary Katie Groke; Community Services Manager Monica Bowser; Director of Golf and Operations Jesse Badder; Capital Project Manager and Building Access Control Specialist Darren Bjorlin; Director of District Services Mark Baird; Manager of Emergency Services Riki Rarick; Recreation Manager Brook-Lyn Greenwood; Recreation Manager Brad Hull; and Recreation Coordinator Janell Koskimaki.

Approval of an Excused Absence of Director Emrick

Motion: Director Tomsula moved to approve the excused absence of Director Emrick. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Agenda

Motion: Director Burns moved to approve the agenda. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Minutes of The May 21, 2026, Board Meeting

Motion: Director Tomsula moved to approve the minutes. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

New Business

  • New Employee Intros – Jeff Glenn

Jessica Starr – Recreation Generalist

Brook-Lyn Greenwood introduced Jessica Starr as the new recreation generalist. Ms. Starr was previously a part-time guest services specialist.

  • Recognition for Exemplary Service to Candy Griscko – Jeff Glenn

Mr. Glenn introduced Candy Griscko and presented her with the community champion award for her service to Apex PRD during the pickleball incident on June 1. He also recognized two Arvada Police officers, Officer Jonathan Pirillo and Sergeant Luke Cogar.

  • MSSP Presentation – Janell Koskimaki

Janell Koskimaki, recreation coordinator, presented an update on the progress of the Middle School Sports Program. She reported to the BOD about MSSP at four of the five Arvada middle schools.

  • IGA for Clear Creek Trail – Jeff Glenn

Motion: Director Tomsula moved to approve the IGA establishing the Clear Creek Trail Collaborative. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Old/Other Business

Executive Director Report

Mr. Glenn reported:

  • Apex PRD was recognized by the City of Arvada for the Pride Proclamation, recognizing June as Pride Month.
  • The City of Arvada is also recognizing Apex PRD during July for the Parks and Recreation Month proclamation. That meeting will be on July 7.
  • There are VIP tickets for the Taste of Arvada available for BOD members.
  • That we have hired a security firm to help with safety issues, and we are exploring the idea of hiring safety staff internally.

Board Member Reports

Director Burns:

Ms. Burns reported about a theft at the Apex Center and shouted out to Gregg in guest services for his help. She also shouted out Candy and her service to pickleball and cornhole. She reminded everyone about the Kiwanis Tossin For Tots event coming up soon. She also reminded everyone about Olde Town Arvada’s Second Saturdays.

Director Tomsula:

Ms. Tomsula attended the Golf Like a Girl event at Indian Tree and shouted out Jesse and his staff for such a great event.

Director Garrimone:

Mr. Garrimone reported on the upcoming foundation tournament. The pickleball tournament raised around $8,000, so that was a success.

President Pyne:

Ms. Pyne attended the foundation pickleball tournament and said it was a huge success.

Adjournment

Motion: Director Burns moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

President Pyne adjourned the meeting at 7:12 pm.
