Come Celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day
May 29 @ 10:00 am MDT
On Wednesday, May 29 over 100,000 older adults will participate in activities at more than 1,000 locations throughout the U.S. to celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day. The common goal for this day: to help keep older Americans healthy and fit. Always held the last Wednesday in May, National Senior Health and Fitness Day is the nation’s largest annual health and wellness event for older adults.
To celebrate, Apex Park and Recreation District will host its inaugural Senior Stroll at 10:00 a.m. at the Stenger Soccer Complex, 11200 W. 58th Ave. This free event includes a one-mile walk on the trail followed by a light breakfast, socializing with friends, and giveaways. Registration for the event is not required.
“Older adults at all levels of physical fitness are encouraged to participate in National Senior Health and Fitness Day,” says Patricia Henze, National Senior Health and Fitness Day program manager. “Our goals for Senior Day are to make exercise fun, to increase awareness of the benefits of a regular exercise program for older adults, and to encourage all older adults to take advantage of the many health and fitness programs offered in their communities.”
In addition to the Senior Stroll, Apex PRD offers many programs for active aging adults including the SilverSneakers® by Tivity Health fitness program, Arthritis Foundation exercise programs, T’ai Chi, Aqua Fitness, yoga, personal training, education opportunities, day trips, 50+ softball, golf, and more.
