Public Skating Sessions

Public skating session times may be adjusted due to special events or holidays, or canceled if there is insufficient interest. Portions of the ice may be used periodically for lessons or special events. Please call 303-403-2598 for recorded information.

Private and small group skating lessons are available on all of our public skating sessions. Please call the Apex Center Ice Arena at 303-463-4287 for additional information.

  • Sunday: 3-5 pm
  • Monday: 11 am-1 pm
  • Tuesday: 11 am-1 pm
  • Wednesday: 11 am-1 pm, 6:30-8 pm
  • Thursday: 11 am-1 pm
  • Friday: 11 am-1 pm, 7:15-8:45 pm
  • Saturday: 3-5 pm, 7:30-9:30 pm

Learn to Skate – Ages 3+

Excellence-on-IceAll classes take place at the Apex Center Ice Arena

Our Learn to Skate program offers top-quality instruction in small group classes providing a fun and safe skating experience for all ages and abilities. Our experienced instructors teach correct technique in the basic elements enabling students to enjoy skating as a lifetime sport. All classes are designed by the nationally recognized United States Figure Skating (USFS) Basic Skills Program; endorsed by USA Hockey, US Speedskating and the Special Olympics.

Skating classes we currently offer

  • Parent/Tot Learn to Skate classes for children ages 3-4 (Parent must be able to skate)
  • Snowplow Sam Learn to Skate classes for children ages 4-5
  • Basic 1-8 and Freeskate 1-6 Learn to Skate classes for ages 6 and older
  • Adult classes for ages 16 and older

Each skater that registers for our program is required to become a member of US Figure Skating, paying the annual registration fee of $12. The membership year runs from July 1 to June 30. Membership includes: A record book with stickers to track your progress, USFS Basic Skills membership patch, Sport Accident Insurance, Basic Skills Edition of Skating magazine.

Group Lesson Information

  • Skate rental and public session pass is included in lesson fee.
  • Skaters need to dress warmly including gloves or mittens – no shorts please.
  • Bicycle, ski or hockey helmets are recommended or skaters 6 years old and younger and for any skater who feels more comfortable wearing one. Sorry, helmets are not available to rent at the arena.
  • Please arrive 30 minutes early the first week of the lessons to get checked in at our Learn to Skate table.

Registration: FOR SAFETY AND QUALITY, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU REGISTER ACCORDING TO OUR GUIDELINES. Registration for Learn to Skate classes ends at midnight on the Sunday before class start date. Late registrations will only be accepted as space permits, and must be approved through the Skating Office. Beginning on the first day of a new session, all registrations, transfers, and cancellations must be authorized by the skating office. We reserve the right to cancel or combine classes based on registrations. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer makeup classes.

Private “Booster” Lessons

Looking to enhance your learning experience? Sign up to schedule a private lesson with one of our valued instructors. These lessons are a great way to help your skater focus and work on skills that are more difficult to achieve and enhances the skills the already know. It also gives the skater a more structured, yet fun, additional practice time. You may speak directly to your Learn to Skate instructor or the Skating Director, to set up lessons.

Figure Skating Program and Private Lessons

The Apex Center Ice Arena features a figure skating program for all levels of skaters ranging from the recreational figure skater to competitive level. With two NHL size ice surfaces there is an extensive schedule of freestyle, moves in the field, and dance sessions, in addition to off-ice yoga and conditioning. Schedules and applications for these programs are available at the arena ice desk.

Private lessons are available with one of our exceptional Apex Center Ice Arena coaches. To set up a private lesson you can speak with the coach directly, or contact Skating Director, Patti Snyder, 303-463-4287, who can help you select a private coach.
