September 17, 2026, Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Call To Order

Director Tomsula called to order the September 17, 2026, meeting of the Apex Park and Recreation District Board of Directors, held at 6:37 pm at the Apex Center. Board members in attendance were Liz Tomsula, Rich Garrimone, Lynn Emrick, Jo Burns and Ken Harrell. District employees in attendance were Executive Director Jeff Glenn; Manager of Community Services and Recording Secretary Monica Bowser; Director of Marketing and Recreation Services Hillary Roemersberger; Director of District Services Mark Baird; Director of Golf Jesse Badder; and Capital Project Manager and Building Access Control Specialist Darren Bjorlin.

Approval of Agenda

MOTION: Director Burns moved to approve the agenda. Director Garrimone seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Minutes of the September 2, 2026, Board Meeting

MOTION: Director Garrimone moved to approve the minutes. Director Burns seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Public Input

New Business

  • Arvada Police Foundation Presentation

Charlie Lenore and Deborah Hinz from the Arvada Police Foundation presented and thanked the board of directors for their support of Breakfast with the Chief and the support of the Arvada Police Department.

  • Board Member Position Votes

The board members voted for the following positions beginning with president first, then vice president and ending with secretary. The results are as follows:

President: 5 votes for Director Tomsula. Director Tomsula will now be the president until May of 2027.

Vice President: 4 votes for Director Garrimone and 1 vote for Director Burns. Director Garrimone will now be the vice president until May of 2027.

Secretary: 3 votes for Director Emrick and 2 votes for Director Burns. Director Emrick will now be the secretary until May of 2027.

Old/Other Business

  • Secrest pool is showing some structural issues. An engineering firm will give us an assessment.
  • All staffing changes have taken place. The Arvada Aquatics Center Manager Kristi Marosy was hired as the new Director of Aquatics.
  • New turf at Apex Field House is delayed for 2 weeks due to being short on materials.
  • Glenn reported that the district referendum consultants are advising the district to re-consider asking a tax question on the May 2027 ballot.

Executive Director Report

Mr. Glenn reported:

Trick or Trot is the 24th of October with staff pumpkin judging and the last Foundation event of the year.

Holiday Dinner is December 10. 6 pm board meeting and dinner after at Indian Tree Golf Club.

Board Member Reports

Director Burns:

Letter from Kiwanis saying thank you for Toss-n-4-Tots.

Kiwanis partnering with district for Santa House.

Successful Old Town Shindig last Saturday.

Chamber of Commerce Election luncheon was informative.

President Tomsula:

Thank you to the board for support and for coming together during the new changes.

Director Garrimone:

Apex Foundation is working with Crown Trophy to put together a plan for the recognition plaque.

Director Emrick:

Nothing to report.

Director Harrell:

Director Harrell reported he had been out visiting facilities and commented on the work going on at the Apex Field House.

Adjournment

MOTION: Director Burns moved that the meeting be adjourned. Director Emrick seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

President Tomsula adjourned the meeting at 7:20 pm.
